Getting Started

Always use your imagination and be creative when building this project or any others. It's your creation, so be inventive when looking for building supplies — you just may be surprised! When building your project, experiment with new and different ways of putting it together. The most important thing is to have fun!

Find these or similar supplies!

• 1 egg carton
• Pipe cleaners (or string, wire, or paper clips)
• Pens for customizing

1. Find some egg cartons!

This is a great way to reuse old egg containers. These ornaments are very fun and simple, so the whole family can do them.

Start out by cutting your egg carton into individual pieces. If you don’t have an egg carton you could use small paper cups for this project.

2. Find your hooks!

Pipe cleaners make great ornament hooks. If you can’t find these around your classroom or house, you can also use some paper clips, a small piece of wire, or even string.

Bend the end of your pipe cleaners to make hooks for your ornaments. The pipe cleaners poke right through the top of the Styrofoam.

3. Make an ornament!

Next you can trim your ornaments into fun shapes. I played around with circles, triangles, even stacking two together. The sky is the limit, so have fun and see what you can come up with.

4. Customize each one!

Voilà! Egg Carton Christmas ornaments that look good on any tree! The final step is the most fun! Decorate your ornaments using paint or markers for a fun and festive look. Have fun trying new color combinations and designs!
