Getting Started

Always use your imagination and be creative when building this project or any others. It's your creation, so be inventive when looking for building supplies — you just may be surprised! When building your project, experiment with new and different ways of putting it together. The most important thing is to have fun!

1Find these or similar supplies!

  • Egg Carton
  • Masking tape or glue
  • Some old cardboard or construction paper
  • Markers or pens for customizing
  • Pipe cleaners

1. Cut out the body!

The first step to building an Egg Carton Bumblebee is cutting out the body. Cut yourself a piece of egg carton that is two “bumps” long. Try to trim the sides evenly.

32. Color the body!

Now you can color your bumblebee. Most bees are black and yellow but you can color your bee anything you’d like.

43. Add legs!

The next step is attaching the legs. Cut six pipe cleaner pieces out and trim them to the length you like. Now attach them with glue or tape. Pipe cleaners are nice because you can bend them into any shape you like.

 

54. Add facial features!

Now we need to add the facial features. Cut out two circles of white paper for the eyes and glue them onto the face. Next poke two pieces of pipe cleaner through the back of the head to make the antennae.

 

5. Finished!

The last step is cutting out a pair of wings you like and attaching them to your bee’s back. Maybe you can even add a stinger like we did! Voila! Your Egg Carton Bumblebee is complete!
